Inspired by Klimt…

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved the work of Gustav Klimt (1862-1918)

His most familiar work ‘The Kiss’ 1908, from his Golden Period, is just one of many works showing what a great innovator he was…

His ability to cloak a portrait or landscape in a rich kaleidoscope of colour and interwoven patterns of gold & silver, mosaics, ornamental motifs, mythical birds, flowers or swirls is unmistakable. I am constantly drawn back to his work, again and again. I find it mesmerizing.

My recent Tree canvas was commissioned from specific photos but inspired none the less by ‘Birch Wood’. Not so much in composition but paint application.

A more conscious nod to his work and a little more fun was the Magic Tree Mural.

In true Klimt style gold leaf was added and some Swarovski crystals were also added to embellish the fruits on the tree.
